GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
The Kirkwood Athletics Department seeks applications from self-motivated, results-oriented individuals with the knowledge, ability and interpersonal skills required to serve as an Assistant Softball Coach/ Athletic Facilities Support and Coordinator. Kirkwood Community College is a National Junior College Athletic Association Division II institution and a member of Iowa Community College Athletic Conference. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
ASSISTANT SOFTBALL COACH
The Assistant Softball Coach will assist the head coach in the management and coaching of an NJCAA/ICCAC Division II women’s softball program. This includes, but is not limited to, assisting with operations management (e.g., program development, schedule, camps, marketing, public relations), recruiting (domestic and international), overseeing and planning the development of team systems, conducting individual workouts, and other duties as assigned.
- Instruct athletes in how to perform their sport, team concepts, and safety.
- Assist head coach with recruiting of athletes.
- Understand and comply with all NJCAA and ICCAC rules and regulations.
- Maintain required records.
- Attend local, state and college meetings that are necessary, or required in order to fulfill job expectations and requirements.
- Participate in Athletic Department meetings and fundraising events.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Note to Candidate: This position requires frequent travel, work in the evenings, on weekends and holidays. Professional references will be required at a later step in the recruitment process. The successful candidate will be subject to a credential and criminal background check and driving record review.
ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT SUPPORT LIAISON
- Assist the Kirkwood Athletic Director with facility maintenance, event setup/tear down and general event management operations. This includes any Kirkwood Community College hosted regional, district or national games/tournaments.
- Hire and supervise work study and part time student-athletic staff for athletic facilities and game management support.
- General support and office coverage for Athletics Department Assistant when needed.
- On-site administration (OSA) and game day management support as needed.
- Social Media support
- Scoreboard support
- Oversee and schedule halftime entertainment home games/matches
- Other duties as assigned

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:
Position involves working in a sporting event setting. Occasional (10-33%) sitting, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) standing, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must have flexible hours to meet practice, games, and travel.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s Degree preferred
- One to two years coaching experience preferred.
LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED:
- Must have a valid Driver’s License.
