SUMMARY
GRCC is seeking faculty who possess an interest in working with diverse student populations from a wide range of ages, ethnicities, national origins, and abilities; engage in and develop innovative teaching strategies; effectively assess student learning outcomes; demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning and professional development; and provide service to our students, the college, and our community at large. Note: this adjunct position will teach asynchronously online.
Faculty members are responsible to GRCC and to each other for the successful completion of departmental work as well as work associated with the School of Health Sciences and GRCC as a whole. In addition to the major position responsibilities, it is expected that faculty demonstrate outstanding communication skills, collaborate effectively, use personal initiative to overcome obstacles, and work efficiently to meet deadlines. In an environment where innovation is valued, each faculty member will take responsibility to perform their work in a manner consistent with both the letter and the spirit of GRCC values.
Only adjunct faculty living in the state of Michigan can teach in person and virtual classes for GRCC.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Major responsibilities:
Provide instruction and support to students in preparation for a career as a Cardiovascular Technologist (CVT) and for the board examination to become a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) after completion of the program. This position requires a high degree of knowledge and experience working in the interventional cardiac catheterization lab, a high degree of professionalism while working with students, the public, clinical partners, faculty, and staff.
Ability to explain cardiovascular diagnostic and interventional procedures and equipment clearly and answer questions from students related to these topics.
Respond to student inquiries via email about course topics, schedule, and alternative information for understanding subject matter.
Construct assignments and administer quizzes and exams through Canvas Learning Management System.
- Organization and demonstration of in person lab instruction of sterility measures, PPE, and introduction to diagnostic procedures and equipment.
- Use of web based programs, such as Google Docs, Google Slides, YouTube, etc. for creating course content.
- Create and consistently update PowerPoint slides for lectures based on course material.
- Record lectures using in-browser technology powered by Panopto.
- Contribute to a positive and professional work environment, by presenting a positive and professional image
- Project a professional image including punctuality, dependability, completing work on time and maintain a good attendance record.
- Excellent organizational skills
- Willingness and ability to learn college-wide systems such as; Gmail, Google docs, Canvas, and alternative educational technology tools used in the virtual classroom.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education Credentials
- Graduation from a Cardiovascular Technologist degree program required. Bachelor's degree or higher in a health related field preferred.
- RCIS and/or ARRT certification required.
Work Experience
- Minimum 2 years experience working in an interventional catheterization lab setting.
- Experience communicating and working effectively with a diverse population is preferred.
- Experience in training students and/or staff in a clinical setting preferred.
- Experience with an online learning environment is preferred.
- Demonstrated computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office and Google.
Equipment Use/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Must be able to maintain confidentiality (develop an understanding of FERPA and abide by HIPAA laws and requirements)
- Ability to communicate with students, clinical partners, staff, and faculty by phone, in person, electronically and through written correspondence.
- Ability to communicate and work harmoniously with all members of the department and campus.
- Ability to perform responsibilities with minimum supervision. Must have excellent proofreading skills and an aptitude for detailed work.
- Must have good verbal and written skills.
Physical Demands
Demonstrate and assist/support students with:
- Ability to lift and move up to 25 pounds
- Ability to sit/rise repeatedly.
- Ability to work on a computer for multiple hours at a time.
- Ability to stand for extended periods (3-4 hours).
Mental Demands
- Ability to handle stressful or increased pressure situations in a professional manner.
- Possess mature judgment.
Working Conditions
- Ability to work in an online environment.
- Ability to work in a classroom and in person lab setting utilizing cardiovascular equipment and computer technology.
